At Rutgers, there are countless opportunities for you to find a community that feels like your home away from home. The Douglass Residential College is a community designed for students who identify as female or nonbinary who want to dream big, lead boldly, and be part of a community that is supportive and inspiring. Starting your freshman year, you can form friendships, partake in annual traditions, and be a part of something bigger than yourself.

A Supportive Start for New Students
Starting college can feel like stepping into a whole new world, but Douglass makes sure you don’t have to figure it out alone. Right from the beginning, you have mentors, peer leaders, and a welcoming community to guide you through the ups and downs of your first year. Whether you’re stressed about picking classes or curious about research opportunities, DRC creates a home within Rutgers that’s warm, supportive, and empowering!
Academic and Leadership Opportunities
Through programs like the BOLD Center for Leadership Development and the SUPER Research Program, Douglass gives you the chance to work on meaningful projects, connect with faculty, and discover what excites you most about your field. Many students walk away from Douglass with career preparation help, research experience, and the confidence to step into leadership roles on campus and beyond.
Living-Learning Communities (LLCs)
One of the most unique parts of Douglass is its Living-Learning Communities (which I am in!). Starting from freshman year, students get the opportunity to live on an all-women floor who are pursuing the same major as you. The different STEM LLCs include Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences, and Nursing/Pharmacy. These themed communities make it easy to find friends who are passionate about the things you are and build a community that essentially grows with you throughout your college years. With workshops, events, and faculty connections built into where you live, the LLCs turn your residence hall into a warm, supportive home.
Events, Traditions, and Community
What makes Douglass special is the traditions and the sense of belonging you will feel. There are countless opportunities throughout the year, such as the Sacred Path Ceremony, STEM Networking Night, and speaker events that bring in inspiring people to learn from. These moments are opportunities to create memories, friendships, and connections that stay with you throughout college and beyond.
