THERAPY

CAPS offers both individual and group therapy options. Therapy is meant to assist and enhance your ability to manage your feelings and behaviors, allowing for more control of your life.

The individual sessions utilize a short-term, semester-based model. However, if additional therapy is needed, CAPS can connect you with community resources. Group therapy you to talk with other students, and gain helpful feedback from multiple avenues and perspectives, cultivating a safe environment. There is a schedule of specific sessions for various topics, such as Coping with Social Anxiety, Cultivating Calm, and Distress Tolerance Workshops.

In my personal experience, CAPS therapy was a great resource. Although only a semester long, the insight I gained from working with a counselor was invaluable and definitely helped me to improve my mental health and academic focus.

ALCOHOL & OTHER DRUGS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (ADAP)

ADAP offers various services to help you if you are struggling with alcohol and drug dependence. After preliminary consultation, evaluation, and an assessment, you can participate in the Recovery Support Program, consisting of early recovery group discussions, sober social activities, and recovery housing. Group and individual counseling, as well as legal assistance, are also available.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

CAPS has an on-call counselor available Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 4 PM for crisis intervention. Services are available in person (17 Senior Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901) or at 848-932-7884.

Go in with an open mind—CAPS programs may not appeal to you, but if you are interested, CAPS can help connect you to external programs that may be a better fit.
